Apprenticeship: A Brief Overview
Apprenticeship is arguably the oldest method of training for a particular job. In the United States, early Americans such as the equally famous George Washington (surveyor) and Benjamin Franklin (printer) have used it. On the other hand, the National Apprenticeship Act was enacted by Congress in 1937.
Apprenticeship generally includes full-time, on-the-job experience where people can actually learn to do a particular job. By performing the required tasks in a hands-on environment and under the supervision of a skilled trainer, you eventually get a dignified training. The bonus arrives when you get allowances while you learn which is a common practice in many companies.
Apprenticeship is designed to develop highly-skilled workers and as such, should never be pursued lightly.
